Goodbye Girls

I was just seventeen when Girls first aired in 2012, and not even close to truly understanding half of the experiences the group of “self-obsessed”-twenty-somethings were exploring in each episode.

I’m now nearly twenty-three and those six years were defining ones for me, both in my life and in learning about myself, and during that time the show helped shape and inspire the woman I am today. Continue reading “Goodbye Girls”

Review: Sherlock – The Final Problem

So here it is, finally, my review of episode three. Hope you enjoy.

Series four of Sherlock concludes with dark secrets from the past, a threat from beyond the grave and a Saw-meets-Crystal Maze-style series of challenges for the Baker Street boys to wrap their heads around.

*WARNING – Spoilers for all previous episodes – minor spoilers for this episode* Continue reading “Review: Sherlock – The Final Problem”

Review: Prevenge + Q&A

Alice Lowe writes, directs and stars in her new project, Prevenge, a deliciously dark and gore-filled comedy-horror.

The film follows soon-to-be Mother, Ruth, who during her pregnancy, is plagued by violent thoughts which seem to spawn from her unborn daughter, and which lead her to commit a series of violent acts on mostly random people.

Review: Sherlock – The Lying Detective

Sherlock continues with the detective facing a despicable villain in the form of TV personality Culverton Smith, alongside his own personal demons and dilemmas.

My trip to La La Land

You know sometimes you enter random competitions on Twitter and Facebook, and the like?

And you know how you never seem to win any of them?

Do you then start wondering why you ever even bother? Because you never even win anyway. Ever!

Well, last week I was thanking O2 Priority because I actually won something! Two tickets to a preview of Damien Chazelle’s new film, La La Land, to be exact! And yes, before you ask, I have pretty much had the soundtrack on repeat since seeing it, and I’m sure you will too. Continue reading “My trip to La La Land”

Review: Sherlock – The Six Thatchers

Last Sunday, one of my favourite TV shows finally returned for its fourth season, and it seriously delivered one hell of an episode! That’s right, Sherlock is off the plane, and back in London. Shock blankets at the ready, this episode is a thrill ride!

*WARNING  – Contains spoilers for previous seasons – none for this episode.* Continue reading “Review: Sherlock – The Six Thatchers”

So, here we go, I’ve made a blog.

Well, a new blog, which I’m planning on maintaining quite a bit better than the last one. I won’t go into details, but let’s just say, I don’t post there anymore.

Anyway, you might be wondering, who am I and why have I started this blog?

My name’s Leanne, and I like to write. Those are the bare-bones basics of it, the literal who and the why, but I can understand that you might want a little more info than that to give yourself a reason to stick around. So, if you want to know more about me, you can go to the aptly titled “About” page in the header, but for now, I want to tell you more about why I’ve set up this blog and what I hope to do with it.

There are many reasons I’m giving this another go, one being that I know I enjoy writing, I have ever since I was little, but honestly, I don’t often have the right motivation and inspiration to do so. I want this blog to be both of those things, driving me forward into the future.

Another is that I want to get better at it and to do so I’m setting myself a goal, week by week, to start a proper routine for writing. Just so you’re aware, in case you’d like to visit again when I have something new for you to read, I intend to post once a week on Sundays and/ Fridays.

Now, you may be thinking, “That’s great Leanne, good for you, but what are you actually going to write about?”

Well, I’ll tell you. Being a third-year Film and Video student and aspiring scriptwriter, I’ll be posting excerpts and drafts of scripts I’ve written or am working on, as well as film and television reviews and some general thoughts and opinions about the industries.

Besides film, I have many, many more interests such as theatre, travel, literature, etc. so expect to see some of that sprinkled throughout too.

Now, I think that pretty much covers everything I need to tell you in this first post, so, here we go.

Wish me luck.
